On the occasion of MIDA (Florence International Crafts Fair) 2024, Artex invited the European Training Foundation (ETF) to initiate a debate on the future prospects of artistic craftsmanship, starting with the publication Crafting the Future: Five squared, in which many stakeholders in the sector participated.
This study was developed as part of the Horizon Europe Tracks4Crafts project, co-funded by the European Union, and analyzes the role and appeal that craftsmanship is increasingly gaining in a historical period characterized by rapid technological development and mass production.
During this panel discussion, which will be attended by local authorities, ETF representatives, experts in the field of Made in Italy, and internationally renowned professionals, the main topics of discussion will cover the role that craftsmanship plays in providing employment opportunities for individuals and communities around the world, but also the skills that are proving to be most needed in this sector.
The conference will be held in Italian at the Teatrino Lorenese, at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, on Monday, April 29, from 9:30 AM. Reservations are required to attend: please send an email to prenotazioni@artex.firenze.it. Pre-registration for the conference entitles you to free admission to MIDA.
The ETF is the European Union agency that helps developing countries tap the potential of their human capital through reform of education, training and labor market systems, as well as in the context of EU external relations policy (www.etf.europa.eu/en).
The Horizon Europe Tracks4Crafts (T4C) project, co-funded by the European Union and led by the University of Antwerp, has a four-year duration (March 2023 – February 2027) and involves a partnership of 15 organizations from across Europe. The main objective is to examine and actualize the transmission of traditional craft know-how in order to re-evaluate the social and economic perception of European artistic crafts as a high-impact sector for territories, as well as to stimulate a future-oriented approach to heritage across the continent (www.tracks4crafts.eu).
