Sea-nthesia Cabinet, designed by Marika Tardio and co-created with Alice Corbetta and Stile Legno, will be exposed at Homo Faber 2024.

On the occasion of the Homo Faber 2024 biennial, the trio composed of the artist and surface designer Alice Corbetta, the creative and product designer Marika Tardio and the artistic carpentry Stile legno owned by Lorenzo Susini, presents the Sea-nthesia Cabinet.

The Sea- nthesia Cabinet is a great and innovative piece of furniture. The realization of the surface of the cabinet doors was designed to evoke marine encrustations: it looks like it is a piece of furniture that was abandoned in the depths of the ocean for a long time. It has

over time taken on the shapes of the marine microorganisms inhabiting it, adopting new formal references. This contemporary furniture piece invites reflection and wonder, capturing the essence of marine life.

The creation of this cabinet involved the collaboration of three different figures:

• Marika Tardio – creative & product designer – conceived, designed, and co-created the cabinet, drawing inspiration from Ernst Haeckel’s renowned illustrated work Kunstformen der Natur. Through her work, she merges experimentation, emotional value, and artisanal heritage.
• Alice Corbetta – artist and surface designer – co-created the piece and expertly crafted the cabinet doors, creating tactile bas-reliefs inspired by the phenomenon of marine fouling. These surfaces allow light to flow, symbiotically merging with the material and creating a unique sensory experience. Layers of materials such as Armenian red bole, brass and copper leaf, combined with natural chemical processes, create oxidations in a game of emergences where the cabinet continues to live and change.
• Stile Legno –  a Florentine artistic craft company – sculpted and built the entire wooden structure, showcasing the skill in shaping the idea combined with a strong dynamism, without ever abandoning the uniqueness that characterizes and distinguishes the artisanal product.

You can see this masterpiece at “The Journey of Life”, the 2024 edition of Homo Faber biennial. The event will take place at the Fondazione Giorgio Chini in Venice, from the 1st to the 30th of September, with the Art Direction by Luca Guadagnino and Nicolò Rosmarini.
