Are you a design and architecture enthusiast, or a craftsman looking to delve deeper into the world of traditional basket weaving? Look no further! Passa Ao Futuro presents an exciting opportunity for students and recent graduates to participate in a fully funded, two-week intensive workshop aimed at pushing the boundaries of basketry craft in the twenty-first century. The summer school will take place at Loulé Criativo in Loulé, Portugal.
From July 22nd to August 3rd, 2024 (arrival on the 21st of July, departure on the 4th of August), selected participants will have the chance to immerse themselves in the rich tradition of Portuguese basket weaving. Guided by five master craftspeople and two experienced design mentors, attendees will explore five traditional raw materials used in basket weaving. This hands-on experience will culminate in the collaborative creation of new pieces, blending traditional techniques with contemporary design principles.
The primary goal of this workshop is to foster innovation within the realm of basketry craft and to expand the possibilities of what these age-old techniques can achieve in modern contexts. Through collaboration and creative exchange, participants will challenge conventions and explore fresh avenues for expression within the craft.
If you’re over 18 years old and currently enrolled in or have recently graduated (within a year) from architecture, design, or craftsmanship programs, this opportunity is for you! Fluency in English is essential, as the workshop will be conducted in English. Additionally, applicants must be able to commit to the entire duration of the course and should be based in Europe with the ability to travel within Europe.
The application deadline is May 12th, 2024, at 11:50 PM WET. To apply, you have to complete the online application form. Successful candidates will be notified of their acceptance by the end of May.
