A survey to explore how technology can support craft enterprises and the Cultural and Creative Industries

The ELLIE project – Enhancing Living cultural heritage through innovative digital tools and Experiences (2025–2027), funded by the Horizon Europe program, involves 13 partners from 6 different European countries.
In Italy, the project brings together Artex, the University of Florence, and the Foundation for Research and Innovation.

This initiative aims to enhance and preserve craft and cultural heritage through the use of cutting-edge technologies, with the goal of making tradition and innovation true allies at the service of artisans and communities.

The creative industries sector covers a wide range of fields, including arts, crafts, media, design, advertising, software, and more. Today, research is increasingly focusing on the impact of emerging technologies on creative processes, with particular attention to how they can generate new opportunities for artisans and cultural professionals.

Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, the Internet of Senses, and Digital Twins are at the core of the ELLIE project. By integrating them into an immersive virtual world, the project seeks to develop an innovative platform that paves the way for new services in the Cultural and Creative Industries. 

This platform will pursue several objectives:

• facilitating the creation of new user experiences; 
• streamlining the development of creative products and services; 
• gaining a better understanding of audience needs; 
• accelerating the production of new solutions through more automated processes.
  

In this way, ELLIE intends to provide artisans and cultural professionals with advanced tools to expand their portfolios, strengthen innovation, and offer high-quality experiences.

To design truly useful tools, it is essential to understand the needs of those who work every day in the fields of craftsmanship and cultural heritage. For this reason, a dedicated survey has been created for artisan enterprises, allowing us to collect information on:

• the real needs and challenges of the sector; 
• how technology can support the creation of new products and services; 
• the skills and tools considered essential for the future.
  

By completing the questionnaire, artisans will be able to make a concrete contribution to guiding the project’s activities, helping us envision how tradition and innovation can grow together.
