From September 14 to 17, the ‘Sandbox’ event, an experimental workshop of the iAtelier program took place in Spain, organized by EOI-Fundesarte. During four intense days, twenty-six participants from all over Spain met virtually to learn about new digital manufacturing tools and establish synergies between them to develop a common project applying both their craft skills and their digital knowledge. Among the craft profiles, the most represented sector has been ceramics, followed by jewelery, textiles and wood. On the other hand, digital profiles were characterized by their use of digital software such as Grasshoper, Adobe or Autocad.
After the ‘Sandbox’ event a period was opened for the presentation of projects for the first experimentation residency that will take place from October 19 to 23 at the FabLab of EXarchitects and FABDEFAB in Villaviciosa de Odón, Madrid. In it, the participants will be able to access the FabLab and start developing their projects together with the tutors. Of the 16 proposals that were presented, 5 projects have been selected taking into account the quality of the proposal presented, its viability and the maximum use of the tools and techniques of the space. In all of them different trades, techniques and skills are integrated:
The iAtelier program is one of the initiatives developed by the European project Crafting Europe financed by the Creative Europe program, whose main objective is to develop capacities within the European craft sector through the promotion of innovative forms of creation that integrate new technologies both in business management as in traditional manufacturing processes.
