MEET THE MAKER
My name is Sara Chyan, and I am based in London. I run an internationally acclaimed eponymous jewellery brand. I founded the studio back in 2018 after completing the Master’s degree in Jewellery & Metal from the Royal College of Art, London. I started this venture with a vision of making minimalistic yet speculative ornaments. I put forth my vision into reality by creating contemporary jewellery that complements the personality of a buyer. A story is associated with each jewellery I make, and I put my heart and soul while devising each piece from design to implementation. I use a multipurpose rare, natural low-melting-point metal called bismuth as raw material for my designs. This metal is extensively used in fire detection systems, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. It naturally forms various colours and geometric shapes after melting. I meticulously melt it, keeping the subjects in mind and create distinctive jewellery from it. My brand offers a comprehensive collection of handmade pieces from pendants, earrings and rings to large art jewellery sculptures.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
My business objectives are to attract returning customers who value design, artisanship, and an eye for peculiar jewellery. Secondly, I intend to increase the number of designs by 6-8% every year. I strive to be better at what I do with each passing day, and I believe that sky is the only limit. I yearn for my designs to make it to at least 80 different galleries and stockists globally. Finally, I hope to develop a profitable and sustainable business. Over the past four months, I learnt how to be my true self and represent what I genuinely believe in. The course has helped me recognize my true potentials and figure out my calling in better ways. Most importantly, the Crafting Business programme polished my interpersonal skills and taught me how to take challenges as an opportunity to learn. Being a small independent art and craft business owner is an incredibly lonely place to be. Before joining this course, I did not know how to share my ideas with others. Although I was working day in and day out and creating new projects back to back, I did not know how to market my brand and make a profit. This course made me able to speak my heart out with relevant people and broaden my horizon. Working with other creative individuals has taught me the importance of teamwork and constructive criticism. The programme made me realize making myself more coherent, organized, and strategic about where I wanted my business to go! Now, I view my business in a completely different way by SWOT. The business plan taught by the programme helps me big time to reflect on my business decisions and think out of the box.
