MEET THE MAKER
My works are preferably sculptures and, secondarily, functional. Sculptures can often have a functional value and functional objects seek sculptural effects. My studio-laboratory is in the countryside, in Umbria, where I can carry out different types of cooking (with electric, gas, primitive ovens). The materials I use are different types of stoneware (high temperature firing) and red clay (with which I create works in the “bucchero” technique). I am planning to open a laboratory in Rome. Among social media, I think that Instagram is a good sales strategy that I would like to implement shortly, while the site remains a “commodity”.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE PART OF CRAFTING BUSINESS PROGRAMME?
My profession is entirely to be developed. Until the end of 2020 I will work as a Product Manager in a large telecommunications company. Starting from 2021 I will start my activity as a ceramist in a more structured way: – opening a laboratory in Rome, with the offer of courses and workshops – trying to create in Umbria a community of people with the same passions and objectives, which unites forces and resources and acts as a stimulus for creativity, following the example of the communities of American potters, who manage to survive even in isolated and remote contexts – trying to build a wood-burning oven as a point of aggregation and sharing of a unique experience.
Given that I would need basic training, I hope that this opportunity to participate in the program offered will help me focus my next steps and better understand the dynamics of the craft business.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
Very interesting and useful overview. I hope to be able to put into practice the suggestions received as soon as possible. Of particular interest to me is the first appointment with a focus on the plan and objectives of the activity, the one on calls for proposals and the one on galleries etc. I think I will listen to all the webinars again.
My business has yet to start, but I think I have better framed some organizational and strategic aspects. With the support of the information received and an outplacement service that I received from my former company, I can start operations with better knowledge of the facts.
