MEET THE MAKER
My name is Nikole Tursi, I’m an Argentinian milliner who I moved to London in 2019
determined to plant my business in the UK and make it grow. I found through millinery a fusion of fashion and art. Captivated by how boundaries disappeared when it came to shapes, materials or volumes, I began a journey where artisanal and innovation intertwine revealing the authentic uniqueness of the handwork. Maintaining an absolute dedication for each piece to be created through its whole process, I mould headdresses that can be cherished for life. I allow each piece to develop in its own direction, flowing through continuous experimentation and involving unique elements along with an original manipulation. Innovation in textile combinations is the main character, within
this fusion lies the value of an unrepeatable material.
This practice grew in me the necessity to inspire and show the value of craft in our history,
culture, today and how it will appear to us in our future world. By working with careful
consideration, appreciation and a conscious approach; I hope to reshape the way people
perceive and wear clothes- extending the life of garments, and returning to the appreciation of true fashion design.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
From taking ideas to reality to organising step by step goals to maintain focus without
loosing control with the amount of things to get done. From learning how to write about my work, presenting myself and even how to express depending not he different audiences. I began to see myself as a business woman. Beyond in the future I may or may not choose to handle the financial aspects of my business, it is essential to understand how it works, to comprehend marketing in depth and to know what SEO is all about, like threads that need to be weaved to obtain a firm tapestry, when you get to the end of the whole programme you realise you have all the tools, it’s a matter of putting them together. I definitely know what needs to be done for my business and what are my next steps.
the programme gave me the opportunity to meet very talented artisans from diverse fields, some of whom I am already planning to collaborate with for future projects. I find this a must to constantly evolve.
I have now completed the programme, but still have a personal mentor that’s been matched perfectly to my actual situation and I already foresee the progress that will be done; I highly recommend to anyone who is starting their business or wanting to take it to the next level to apply to the programme.
I am very grateful for the support I received, the experiences involved and people I met. I
love becoming part of this Crafts Council family of artisans, I been guided the way, but this is only the beginning!
FIVE THINGS YOU’LL BRING WITH YOU FROM THE EXPERIENCE:
