MEET THE MAKER
More than 30 years I have been making wooden Screw Nutcrackers. My main profession is mechanical engineering. I am making special machines and by using these machines I make wooden works. Mostly I use firewood and I am not cutting live trees. In our country we have very many species of trees usable for such souvenirs, it is hard woods and fruit trees. For finishing I am using environmentally friendly oil. I mainly do for gifts and also for sale. You can see my Wooden Screw Nutcrackers on all continents of earth.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE PART OF CRAFTING BUSINESS PROGRAMME?
I am an invited Professor in Georgian Technical and Agrarian universities. I have courses in woodworking technologies. In technical University in International Design school I have courses: “Woodworking and furniture making” and in Agrarian University “Woodworking Technology and Woodworking workshop design”.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
Looking at the artisan art in industrial era 4.0 and his digitalisation, I can imagine that the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine will take over routine work. My country Georgia is very rich with our national ornaments. For the future I want to make the CNC machine ornamental wood carving. For the long future, I want to make 3D wood sculptures shaped as a Screw nutcracker. I hope and think that the knowledge and experience that I will take from this project help me to realise my goals.
