MEET THE MAKER
My name is Jane Sedgwick and I live in Norfolk. I started my business in 2016 and have been selling my jewellery via my website, crafts fairs and stockists ever since.
I studied Jewellery and Metalwork at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, then MA Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery at the Royal College of Art in 1996. I was a lecturer in Art, Design and Craft at the University of Derby from 1998 until 2010, until I moved to Norfolk to develop my own creative practice.
I make bold, playful wooden jewellery. I use traditional woodworking techniques such as riving, turning and carving, but I am inspired by the clean lines and simplicity of form associated with modernism and geometry. I manage a small woodland in North Norfolk which provides a sustainable source of timber for my practice.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
I have learned that it’s important to know why I am a maker and that it is important to communicate this to others as part of my story. My overall vision for my practice hasn’t changed as a result of the programme but I now know how I how I can make it happen and who to ask for help on the way.
