Amandine David

I am a Brussels based designer and researcher. My work celebrates sharing as a methodology and opportunity to redefine design processes. My research is located at the crossroad of traditional crafts and digital practices. It usually takes shape in the creation of tools and material experimentation libraries. I am also the co-founder of Hors Pistes, a nomadic residency program that initiates encounters between craftsmen and designers and explores the value of trans-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaborations.

Meshes by Esmé Hofman and Amandine David explores how parametric design and basket weaving can challenge each other. Through the collaboration of digitally generated guiding structures and the natural flexibility of fibres, the facilitation of big scale weaving and exploration of a new repertoire of shapes becomes possible. This hybrid technique stimulates a playful learning approach towards basket weaving and contributes as a research tool that can be applied to the fields of design, architecture, fashion, and more.
