AN EXTRACT FROM THE CASE STUDY FOR CRAFTING EUROPE
My experience in visiting the fair is overall okay. There’s clear and big signage along the way to the fair. All of the exhibitors speak in English and have professional display of their work. The fair exhibited a good amount of international businesses. Sieraad jewellery fair was very well organised and ran smoothly. There was a good variety of exhibitors and I didn’t feel like there were any issues with the fair itself. I wouldn’t choose this fair as an opportunity to exhibit and trade my products. There are other fairs with lower fees that would be a better use of my money.
The biggest challenge in Sieraad fair would be getting my products into the hands of potential customers. The Dutch market is very competitive, and there are a lot of established brands that have been around for many years. It can be difficult to stand out and get noticed. Another challenge is language barrier. Although most people in the Netherlands speak English, it’s not always easy to communicate with potential customers or business partners if you don’t speak Dutch fluently. Despite these challenges, I’ve found the Dutch jewellery market to be very exciting and full of opportunities. Some exhibitors told me that they had a great time exhibiting at the fair, but there were less exhibitors than in previous years.
I learnt that exhibiting at Sieraad fair can be a great way to promote my business, but it can also be expensive. I’ve also learnt that it’s important to do your research before attending a fair. It’s also important to talk to as many people as possible and get their feedback on your work. Finally, I’ve learnt that it’s important to have a clear idea of what your target market is and who your audience is before attending a fair. I was able to meet a lot of interesting people and see some amazing work. This research trip has given me a first-hand look at the potential market for my products overseas. I feel much more confident about exporting now that I have seen the demand for my products firsthand.
