AN EXTRACT FROM THE CASE STUDY FOR CRAFTING EUROPE

The London Design Fair 2022 did not take place due to the unfortunate death of Queen Elizabeth, whose funeral was held in one of the days of the trip. This was an event at the same venue in Brick Lane where the actual fair will be taking place, and intended to announce the plans for the 2023 event and celebrate its much-anticipated return to the international design calendar. Above all, it was a very good opportunity to talk to the organisers, as well as to meet other people of the industry in person.

Fortunately, although the London Design Fair (an event that brought together many professionals of the industry under one roof) was postponed to 2023, the London Design Festival was taking place, all over London. Rather than going to one venue and find all the exhibitions under that one roof, I had to travel across London to visit exhibitions separately in a number I could realistically visit with the time I had – also considering that on the day of the funeral all the LDF events were shut. Still, I managed to visit quite a few of these venues, and get to know the work of many artists, designers and makers, many of which were developing fantastic work in terms of design and sustainability, which is something that I really want to bring to my own practice. From these I would point out the “Kasama Potters” exhibition, which showed a collection of works by 32 potters from Japan.
