Both capes have been inspired by the traditional Portuguese cape “Capucha”, made by hand with felted wool and it was used by shepherds and peasants in Portugal’s most mountainous villages for centuries.
The white cape reminds us of the white snowy days when the brave Portuguese women would leave their houses with their sheep facing the difficult wintery mountains. The second cape was inspired by the traditional colourful shepherd’s blankets – “cobertor de papa” -, used to scare away the wolves and prevent attacks.
Using laser cut technology allowed me to give more definition to the graphics presented in both pieces. This helped transform the traditional capes into modern and contemporary ones.
