MEET THE MAKER
Hello, I’m Rachael. I’m an artist based in Sheffield specialising in cutlery, jewellery and sculpture. I think through materials and making, creating works that are focused around food and the everyday experience of eating. I gained a BA and MA in jewellery and metalwork and went on to teach that subject at Sheffield Hallam University. Although I have developed my artistic practice over the years since graduating, I am new to business, having set up as a sole trader in February 2021.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
My experience of the Crafting Business programme has been brilliant, I’ve learned so much and I’m very grateful for all the support it’s given me. Throughout the programme I have taken time to reflect on and analyse my business from a range of perspectives, which has enabled me to identify weaknesses and strengths I need to work on and develop. I’m grateful that the programme created such a supportive online environment in which to work and I’m highly appreciative to receive input from the amazing array of experts and the really talented group of makers I was with. My aim is to become an established maker, and to help me achieve this I have set myself clear goals relating to training/skills development, marketing, promotion and networking. The main thing that changed for me during the course of the programme was that my confidence grew as I moved through each module. Having completed the business plan, I feel much more prepared, as I have a clear roadmap to follow that is supporting me to achieve my goals.
